WHITECAP's
SAILING
EXCURSION
Grand Rivers, KY to Aberdeen, Mississippi
November 28th, 1999 to Dec 11th, 1999
- Day 70 - Nov 28, 99 - Sunday - Still at Lighthouse Landing
Marina, now awaiting parts.
- Day 71 - Nov 29, 99 - Monday - Wished myself a Happy birthday!!! First one I ever celebrated alone.
- Day 72 - Nov 30, 99 - Tuesday - Stepped the masts and tightened up the rigging this morning, bent on the sails
and sail covers this afternoon. Still awaiting parts.
- Day 73 - Dec 1, 99 - Wednesday - The parts arrived today and we started the rebuild.
- Day 74 - Dec 2, 99 - Thursday - All did not go well and the engine had to be pulled again
for an adjustment on the front of the transmission; everything was then reinstalled and
Mercedes was tried
again - this time, no problem. Unfortunately due to the delay, WHITECAP's
traveling companion, the Irwin 37,
has gone on ahead.
- Day 75 - Dec 3, 99 - Friday - Finally moving again, albeit alone...WHITECAP made 23 miles today and is at Kenlake
Marina in Aurora, KY, still on Kentucky Lake. We are now about 8 miles from Tennessee.
- Day 76 - Dec 4, 99 - Saturday - No Update.
- Day 77 - Dec 5, 99 - Sunday - Richard and Ben accompanied with (Dick's) granddaughter,
Michelle flew into New Orleans today and rejoined WHITECAP on Kentucky Lake to partake of the next 10 days of the
excursion.
- Day 78 - Dec 6, 99 - Monday - No Update.
- Day 79 - Dec 7, 99 - Tuesday - WHITECAP, complete with its crew of four made her way
out of Kentucky Lake and down the Tennessee River to Pickwick Dam where she will spend the night.
It's only about 5 miles to the Mississippi/Alabama border and about 115 miles east of Memphis, Tenn.
- Day 80 - Dec 8, 99 - Wednesday - Ben checking out the
frost and fog. Ben and Michelle after fog and frost had started to burn off
on the Tenn-Tom River.
- Day 81 - Dec 9, 99 - Thursday - No Update.
- Day 82 - Dec 10, 99 - Friday - WHITECAP has wound her way done the Tombigbee River to
the town of Aberdeen, Mississippi, which is just 27 miles north of Columbus, MS and 180 miles
north-east of Jackson, MS; quite close to the Mississippi/Alabama border. This will be her home
for Christmas.
- Day 83 - Dec 11, 99 - Saturday - WHITECAP is patiently watching as Dick and the crew
(Richard, Ben & Michelle) tidy everything up to leave it shipshape for a month as she will
spend Christmas alone here in Aberdeen. Dick and the crew are leaving for
New Orleans today to relax for
a day and a half before catching their aircraft back to the wintry north (PEI- it's been like summer
there recently). Michelle was amazed and highly entertained by a "live" mannequin. There will be few or no updates from now until early January other than the LOG update,
which will come as some as Dick gets home. Thanks to all who are following and
WHITECAP wishes you all a
MERRY CHRISTMAS
and HAPPY NEW MILLENNIUM
